This was a very hard match for us as we were playing a team that had pre season beat us deservedly 5-1. However we had our heads up for this match and we were ready to prove we were not going to get beat so badly again!! We had no subs for this match and Becca had just returned from injury after 9weeks and had to play the full match. The start of the match was very messy and we were not holding our defensive positions and were caught out of position with 2 defenders dealing with the same ball and Libby just spilled the ball - a very soft goal but none the less 1-0 to Woburn. This was Woburns first attack on our goal. We pulled ourselves together and maintained a very tight game for the remaining half with Shelby shooting just wide. The woburn girls defended very well and managed to frustrate Shelby. In the second half India and Maxine communicated well at the back and held positions better. Becca came into her element and Water Eaton had a winger. She dealt well with a hard (but fair) tackle and won WEY the free kick Shelby took this and we put pressure on Woburn. With another run down the wing Becca laid a sweet cross to Shelby and with Becca following through either one of them could have scored. Laura and Molly both played well in their positions too. Another well fought match for all the girls and played in a very sportmanship manner. Well done WEY
Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
