Renfrew came into this last game of the season as THE form team in the division with a tremendous 12 victories from 15 games. Opponents A Watt have been in second place for much of the season and only needed a point to secure the runners-up spot while only another victory would do for RT if they were to clinch 2nd spot on the last day.

From the first whistle the Town tore into their opponents and a whirlwind opening fifteen minutes left Andrew Watt reeling. The barrage started with a cross to the back post which McLeish volleyed back across goal for Maguire to instinctively header into the bottom corner. 1-0 Renfrew. Moments later the second arrived as the ref correctly awarded a spot kick for handball by a Watt defender. Burky doubled the lead from the spot. The third and possibly best goal of the day arrived a couple of minutes later. Great build-up again ripped open the Watt defence realising Colin Salisbury on the right and his inch perfect cross was met by Niall who hit an unstoppable strike from close range 3-0 Renfrew.

The Watt cause was further damaged when their number 9 was sent off for dissent as their discipline completely crumbled. The hosts were reduced to shots from distance while the Town continued to create the better chances. Nonetheless it remained 3-0 at the half time break.

Into the second half and the Town were guilty of easing off a bit. A free kick on the right was delivered into the box and was headed into the net to give Watt hope. They must have really thought they were onto something when a second arrived after some sloppy defending but Burky popped up on the end of a superb pass by Stevie O'Neill to net his second and the Town’s fourth to kill off any comeback hopes.

Watt were all over the place now as the fouls flew in everywhere and some alky at the side of the park was trying to get involved as well. A second player rightly saw red to reduce them to nine men and the off the ball kicks, shoves and knees were laughed off by the Town as they ran out comfortable winners. A fifth goal arrived as Burky notched his third of the day. Colin Salisbury tapped home a sixth and topped it off with a ridiculous celebration then Burky notched a fourth to complete the 7-2 rout from another O'Neill pass.

So the 09-10 season finishes with the Town in the runners-up position and if they can carry their second half season form into the new campaign then hopefully next season will deliver some silverware.
